Grilled Jerk Salmon

I tried this recipe and it came out awesome.  since it came out so well, I wanted to share it.  I am a huge fan of Jamaican food and my favorite Jamaican dish by far is jerk chicken.  I haven’t ventured out and made my own jerk seasoning yet because I am trying to find one that I really like to find the flavor profile that I like.  I found a seasoning from Walkerswood at a local market here in NC that specializes in international foods, so I decided to try it.

  • Salmon (Atlantic, Alaskan, sockeye, whatever you like to eat)
  • Jerk Seasoning
  • Kosher salt

I had a big piece of Atlantic Salmon that I needed to cook so I decided to “jerk it”.  But first I had to break down that salmon fillet and prep it for grilling.  I made a video detailing how I did that here.  It’s an extremely important step if you want some good grilled fish.

Now it’s time to marinate the fish you want to marinate this for at least 2 hours and no more than 4. This is a very pungent marinade and it does not take a lot to get the job done. We do not need any pepper or salt as we have already salted the fish in prep. Take a look at this video and see exactly how I did it.

Now it’s time for the grill. We will be direct grilling these fillets.  The single most frequent issue that people have when grilling fish is sticking.  there are 3 important steps that you must follow to reduce sticking on the grill. Check out my last article on how to grill fish for some pointers .

Total grill time was about 7-8 minutes for close to well done.  Use a meat thermometer to check for your desired doneness.  In the words of my boy Mr. Hotspot…….smackable.
